General comments about the boat |
Kiewa is a comfortable, semi-traditional style narrow boat built in 2005
by Halco Narrowboats Ltd on a Price Fallows hull. The hull is of
10mm/6mm steel and the superstructure is of 4mm steel. Two fresh water
magnesium anodes protect the hull. There are doors to the front deck,
and a hatch and doors to the rear. There is space for 2 gas bottles in
the bow, and the fresh water tank is located under the front deck. Two
lockers provide storage and seating room on the rear deck.
The boat is insulated with spray foam to all surfaces except below the
floor. An Alde gas boiler provides central heating and a solid fuel
stove is situated at the front of the boat. Hot water is provided from a
calorifier heated by the engine, the boiler, or by an immersion heater
when a landline mains supply is available.
The boat has 240V sockets powered from an onboard inverter or landline
where available. 12V sockets are also provided. Lighting is provided by
LED lights throughout.
Kiewa (an aboriginal word meaning 'sweet water') is fitted out to a high
standard. The interior is lined with a pale oak paneling, which gives it
a light and airy feel. The flooring is vinyl, which is hard wearing and
easy to clean.
At the rear is the fixed double cabin. The bathroom and galley separate
this cabin from the living area. The bathroom has a pump-out toilet,
vanity unit and full-size shower cubicle. It also contains a washing
machine, which is powered by its own inverter.
The U-shaped galley is equipped with a microwave, an eye-level oven and
grill, and a 4-burner hob located above an electric-powered fridge. A
hatch opposite the galley provides ventilation. Cupboards and drawers
provide good storage and house a range of cooking pots and utensils, and
a full set of crockery, glassware and cutlery for six people.
To the front of the galley is a dinette seating 4. The dinette is raised
to allow better views. It converts to a double bed. To the front of the
dinette is the lounge area. In the lounge are two armchairs, each of
which converts to a single bed. On the shelf unit by the front
glass-panelled doors is a LCD TV/DVD and a CD/radio unit. There are also
folding chairs, for use on the front deck or towpath.
There is ample storage, either in cupboards, under the bed, and under
the dinette benches. Duvets and pillows are provided, so each owner
needs only to supply bed linen, duvet covers and towels.

General Comments by vendor

Each owner owns a share in the boat
until they choose to sell. One of the owners acts as secretary.
All communications about the boat are done via email, with the
owners voting on items like work required or home mooring.
The home mooring for 2017 is Streethay Wharf, Lichfield. All
servicing and maintenance is handled by the boatyard.
We have a great group of owners, some of whom have been with the
boat since it was launched. Some of the owners are very
knowledgeable about boats, and handle minor maintenance and DIY
themselves.
